SIIM 2008 Day 3

SIIM 2008 Day 3 seemed to be a bit more casual but was still interesting. I only attended the first two session today as I did want to see some more of the great city of Seattle. In brief, session one today were several stories on PACS downtimes and discussions on understanding the business impact of having PACS go down.

The second session of the day was a demonstrations of some of the tools of the imaging informatics professional. This showed some of the open source tools that a PACS administrator might be able to use in their daily practice to improve the likelihood of keeping PACS up or having enough of a notification to preemptively act to issues that might bring PACS down.

The final session that I attended today was a crossfire debate on the ever controversial topic, who owns PACS, IT or radiology?

This last debate was so intriguing, I didn't ev.en take detailed notes for the JS PACS forum. Just know that it was very spirited and ultimately balanced out with any slight tipping of the scales in my mind to Radiology owning the PACS.
