SIIM 2008 Day 1

Here is a summary of SIIM 2008 Day 1.

It was an exciting day at the Seattle convention center with many people that I spoke to looking forward to learning that we were about to engage in during the day.

The day started with a great keynote speech by Dr. Ronald Arenson. He spoke about the history of computers and how their use evolved into healthcare and ultimately PACS.

Day 1 also included good discussion in the areas of Imaging center PACS v.s. PACS at larger healthcare organizations such as hospitals and universities.

The second session I attended today spoke to the distribution of images around the enterprise and beyond, particularly image distribution through a RHIO with the use of a new open source product called Xebra.

The vendor exhibits were standard fair but I did get to look at Exogen's new line of products cumulating with Blue Ocean.

Another new product that came out that will be useful for radiology administrators is ORQA's new product which provides JCAHO and ACR compliant solutions for monitoring radiology QA statistics such as radiologist peer review, technologist feedback, sentinel event management, continuity planning, and policy management.
