Today, it was announced that Nuance, the provider of the Powerscribe Voice Recognition Dictation system purchased Vocada. Vocada, the developers of Veriphy, will fit nicely into Powerscribe as the Veriphy product is a critical test results notification system. This is important because of the JCAHO requirements of critical test results notification. The ability for a radiologist to trigger critical test results from within the dictation product will go far in making Powerscribe a powerhouse in the Voice Recognition Dictation arena. I will be interested to see if any other VR dictation system will be able to integrate Veriphy into their product without paying an arm and a leg!
Murphy's law struck again at work today. We received a new GE Ultrasound device and the network portion of the setup was scheduled weeks ago. I will say that there is nothing worse than walking into the room with the applications specialist, 3 US technologists and a doctor, calmly configuring the DICOM, MWL and network info on the device and standing there in horror when the device can't ping out. The failure: No one from networking patched out the jack. Lesson learned: Check the machine out the day before.
