PACS-Admin-Blog NUANCE purchases Vocada, Murphy's Law at setup time.
PACS-Admin-Blog 10/18/07 NUANCE purchases Vocada. Today, it was announced that Nuance, the provider of the Powerscribe Voice Recognition Dictation system purchased Vocada. Vocada, the developers of Veriphy, will fit nicely into Powerscribe as the Veriphy product is a critical test results notification system. This is important because of the JCAHO requirements of critical test results notification. The ability for a radiologist to trigger critical test results from within the dictation product will go far in making Powerscribe a powerhouse in the Voice Recognition Dictation arena. I will be interested to see if any other VR dictation system will be able to integrate Veriphy into their product without paying an arm and a leg!
Murphy's Law at setup time. Murphy's law struck again at work today. We received a new GE Ultrasound device and the network portion of the setup was scheduled weeks ago. I will say that there is nothing worse than walking into the room with the applications specialist, 3 US technologists and a doctor, calmly configuring the DICOM, MWL and network info on the device and standing there in horror when the device can't ping out. The failure: No one from networking patched out the jack. Lesson learned: Check the machine out the day before.
